Volkswagen GTI owners unleash their toys on the track

On it’s seventh generation and still a track weapon

Volkswagen’s ultimate hot hatch, the GTI, has always been on the list of many car aficionados, and what better place to test out the capabilities of this German head turner than Clark International Speedway?

Called the “Volkswagen Driving Experience”, in cooperation with Volkswagen Bonifacio Global City and Quezon Ave, owners and would be customers were treated to a whole day of safe, controlled, and fun laps at one of the country’s top racetracks, pushing the car to its limits and learning how to handle the various features and power behind this front-wheel drive rocket. On the track, the GTI showed all participants how a 2.0-liter turbocharged stratified injection (TSI) engine mated to a 6-speed dual shift gear (DSG) transmission feels like when all 217 bhp of power and 258 lb/ft of torque are let loose. The numerous twists and turns of the speedway also highlighted the Golf GTI’s sport suspension, enhanced by the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) with XDS plus technology, and engine drag torque control. Braking safety was assured with the 16-inch front ventilated and rear disc brakes with red brake calipers.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI with Oettinger Kit and ABT Power-Up Module unleashed all 290 PS of power and 420 Nm of torque in the safe confines of an international-class raceway

Also available for test drive was the Golf GTI with Oettinger Kit and ABT Power-Up Module, offering a 32% increase in power and 20% increase in torque (from 217 Ps to 286 bhp and 258 lb/ft to 310 lb/ft, respectively), making the Golf GTI capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 254 kph. The Oettinger Kit and ABT package are dealer options, and do not affect applicable warranties on the Golf GTI units fitted with them.

Test drives of the rest of Volkswagen’s model lineup such as the Beetle Club Edition, Passat mid-sized premium sedan, Tiguan compact SUV, Touran MPV, Jetta sedan, and the Golf GTS were held simultaneously outside the track and around the Clark Freeport Zone.

More than just a track day, the “Volkswagen Driving Experience” highlights the many lifestyle possibilities of owning an iconic Volkswagen sports car, and the fellowship enjoyed by Golf GTI owners across various communities.

Volkswagen’s clients also had a field day off the track, with the German marque’s model lineup available for test drive around Clark Freeport Zone
