Piaggio group’s scooter company goes electric
Vespa, the Italian brand known for their stylish and iconic scooters, has just revealed their newest two-wheeler for 2018; and it’s electric. Aimed at delivering easy riding and connectivity, the Vespa Elettrica shares much of the same body geometry as the existing modern Vespa lineup, but with some very welcome additions.
The heart of Vespa Elettrica, a Power Unit capable of delivering continuous power of 2 kW (2bhp) and peak power of 4 kW (5bhp), achieves a performance superior to a traditional 50cc scooter, especially with regard to acceleration, which benefits from the typical brilliant delivery of the electric motors. It provides an agile and enjoyable ride on urban roads, in the utmost silence: Vespa Elettrica is in fact completely silent, helping to make cities less chaotic and more livable, while also countering pollution from an acoustic point of view. Riding range is an impressive 100km, while the X version extends this range to 200km. The Vespa Elettrica also features the Vespa Multimedia Platform for smartphone connectivity, and features a digital color TFT display.
The modern lithium-ion battery is charged by using the cable in the seat compartment, and connecting the plug to a normal wall-mounted electrical outlet or charging station. The time required for a full charge is 4 hours.
Coming in a special chrome grey finish with metallic reflections, which the customer can choose to tailor many distinctive details, and available in seven color variants, Vespa Elettrica will be wholly produced in Pontedera, Italy and will be distributed throughout the world in 2018
