Senator JV Ejercito takes maiden Toyota Vios Cup win

Daniel Miranda of Team Obengers may have taken a double win in the Super Sporting Class during the second round of the Toyota Vios Cup, but it was undoubtedly Senator JV Ejercito -also of Team Obengers- that was the story of the day by winning the second race in the Sporting Class.

An avid automobile enthusiast, the legislator has been racing in the Toyota Vios Cup since the first season, but this is his first time to take the top step of the podium. The senator won with a comfortable 1.210 second gap over second placer Ton Ramos of Toyota San Fernando and Mark Sy of Toyota San Pablo.

Meanwhile, Daniel Miranda, the lead driver of Team Obengers put a forgettable start behind him by winning both races of the day in the highly competitive Super Sporting Class.

For the second race, I had transmission problems, so my start was ugly. At that time I was in 7th place,” said the 20-year-old Miranda. “Slowly but surely, when I saw that there were only three laps remaining, that’s when I started to push myself, and I’m very happy with my result.”

The additional 60-kg ballast on his car (for taking the morning pole) did not bode well with his transmission problems, and so Miranda he fell down the order to P7.

With the pack entering the final three laps of Race 2, Miranda made his presence felt, overtaking his rivals one by one to claw his way back up the order.

Apart from my excess weight and transmission problem, another challenging part of my race was overtaking my other opponents on the track due to my appalling start. Every small space between my opponents, I took it. Just keep overtaking,” Miranda added.

In the end, Miranda took the checkered flag 2.862 seconds ahead of Gerard Loy of Team Biskeg, followed by Mon Tanjuatco of Toyota Makati in third. Miranda also bested fellow championship rival Andres Calma of Toyota Bacoor in Race 1.
