Porsche Motorsport tops World Endurance Championship in Shanghai

Porsche Motorsport seals the deal at 6 Hours of Shanghai 2017

Hot on the heels of their recent victories at Le Mans 2017, Nürburgring, Mexico and USA, the Porsche Motorsport LMP 1 teams were determined to extend their championship supremacy at the 6 Hours of Shanghai 2017.

Finishing second and third at the penultimate round of the FIA World Endurance Championship allowed Porsche to successfully defend both drivers’ and manufacturers’ world championship titles. The LMP 1 team will return home to Germany with the manufacturer’s trophy for the third consecutive time.

The race took place on a consistently dry track with ambient temperatures of around 15 degrees Celsius, and the abrasive tarmac of the Chinese Formula One circuit tested the drivers and mechanics to the limit.

The driver trio composed of Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley finished second in the six-hour race of Shanghai and are the new world champions. Their teammates in the sister car, the outgoing world champion Neel Jani, André Lotterer and Nick Tandy, came third in China.

The FIA World Endurance Championship will head to Bahrain for the last race of the season on November 16, 2017.
