Hyundai unveiled its new flagship Palisade SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Produced in Ulsan, South Korea, the 2020 Palisade is based on an all-new SUV chassis and offers seating for up to eight with power third-row seats.
“The new 2020 Hyundai Palisade clearly evokes design imagery worthy of Hyundai’s flagship SUV, with new levels of all-road, all-weather capability, technology, safety, roominess and efficiency, all packaged in cutting-edge design. This new Hyundai SUV is the ultimate family vehicle for practical, comfortable daily use and memory-making road trips whenever the appeal of the open road should beckon,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning, Hyundai Motor America.
The Palisade’s exterior proves its worthy of the title ‘Hyundai’s new flagship SUV’ as it resonates elegance and a sleek design. Its position as a premium SUV is evident in the bold and wide cascading grille. Composite headlights are separated, while a vertically-connected forward lighting signature coupled with extended hood profile create a distinctive presence. Available in the Palisade are LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED turn-signal mirrors. Muscular detailing is presented by full volume over-fenders and body sides. The rear asserts the Palisade’s extensive and stable attitude through curved detailing and a vertical LED rear taillight design. Its sits on 20-inch allow wheels.
For easy ingress and egress from the third-row seat, a button on the second row seat offers one-touch operation. Moreover, the third row is equipped with power folding/unfolding and reclining seats. As an option, second row captain chairs with ventilated seating surfaces are offered in the Palisade. Each row comes with USB outlets for passengers’ convenience, for a total of seven USB outlets.
The infotainment system boasts of a 10.25-inch touchscreen display in widescreen format, paired with a 12.3-inch fully-digital TFT center instrument cluster that comes with multiple view modes and differential drive mode illumination. For added convenience, two Bluetooth devices can be connected simultaneously. One can be paired as a mobile phone connection, while the other for audio streaming.
A single instrument panel gauge cluster coupled with navigation provides ease of use and can be used with an optional heads-up display feature. The center console is organized using shift-by-wire controls, freeing up control space for the driver. This feature also includes automatic park logic that shifts the SUV into park when the engine is off and with the driver’s door is opened.
Under the hood of the Palisade is an Atkinson-cycle 3.8-liter V6, dual CVVT, direct-injected engine that produces 287 bhp at 6,000 rpm and roughly 262 ft-lb. of torque at 5,000 rpm. It is then paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with a multi-plate torque converter. To reduce the NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), the Palisade is equipped with extensive under-hood insulation, special sound-deadening carpets, and powertrain tuning to deliver a smooth and linear response.
The Palisade will be available in various exterior colors: Beckets Black, White Cream, Lagoon Silver, Steel Graphite, Sierra Burgundy, Moonlight Cloud and Forest Rain.
