Touted as China’s 4th largest automotive player, Changan is set to provide more options in the commercial vehicle space, with 61 years of commercial vehicle production experience in its 157-year existence.
Changan boasts of a large number of manufacturing plants in China, as well as facilities in Japan, Europe and Detroit, USA. It has built vehicles on its own and in partnership with some of the largest automobile brands which happen to be some of the most popular brands in the Philippines as well. Parts and services are available to customers around the world, with a six-hectare parts and production facility in its headquarters in Chongqing, China.
Distributed by Berjaya Auto Asia Inc. and retailed under the Auto Asia brand name together with Korean manufacturer SsangYong, two products will initially be offered: the Honor S 7-seater Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) and the Star Truck small truck.
Priced at PhP 585,000, the Changan Honor S is a value-for-money proposition with features and specifications found in higher-priced vehicles. The Honor S is capable of seating seven passengers and is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with variable valve timing technology that produces 105 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. With features like a 10-inch Android-based LCD infotainment screen with AUX/USB/iPod connectivity, dual airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic brakeforce distribution, rear parking sensors and a reverse camera, the Honor S punches far above its price. There is also an option for an 8-seater configuration for those that need to carry more people with no added cost. The Honor S comes with a 3-year or 60,000 kms warranty, whichever comes first. The available colors for the Honor S are brown, silver gray, and white.
The Changan Star Truck is geared towards entrepreneurs and small to medium scale business owners with its Cab and Chassis, Dropside Pick-Up, and Aluminum Box body style configurations. The Star Truck is powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with 97 hp and 88 lb-ft of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. As far as features go, all configurations of the Star Truck are equipped with a 2-DIN entertainment system with AUX connectivity and a 12V power outlet. The Star Truck retails for P435,000 for the Cab and Chassis and P455,000 for the Dropside body style, and P488,000 for the variant with a built-in aluminum box. The Changan Star Truck comes with a 1-year or 20,000 kms warranty, whichever comes first. The colors available are silver gray and white.
While these two models are part of Changan’s initial foray into the Philippine market, Auto Asia has promised readily available parts and services at its Sta. Rosa, Laguna facility. The dealership also offers its Mobile Service Van to take care of PMS and servicing, provided the vehicle’s location is within 100 kms of the dealership.
