After a very intense and exciting season, Marvin Mangulabnan, Official BMW Motorrad Racing Team Rider, emerges as the 2016 Philippine Superbike Overall Champion.
With solid double 1st Place wins in both Rounds 4 and 5 of the Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK), Mangulabnan entered the 6th and final round on top spot with a 24-point lead over the next contender for the Championship. Known for his hardwork and dedication, Marvin did not rest on his laurels and qualified 1st for Round 6 and would start both the pre-final and final races on pole position.
Battling it out with the best of the best in superbike racing, Raniel Resuello (Kawasaki), Dashi Watanabe (Kawasaki), TJ Alberto (Ducati), and Troy Alberto (Ducati), Mangulabnan finished the pre-final race in 2nd Place. At this point Marvin already had enough points to mathematically secure the Championship.
Much to the delight of his loyal fans, Marvin decided to run in the final race. Having fallen several positions by Turn 1, Marvin had to work his way back up reaching 3rd position by the 6th lap of the race at the entry of the Turn 1. From here, he started his attack. Having forged a close bond with his BMW S1000RR superbike, they moved as one as they chased 2nd spot which they were able to reel in and take also on the 1st turn after a just one lap, and with the heart of a true champion they set their sights on the top spot. With two laps remaining, Marvin found an opening in Turn 6 and took the lead crossing the finish line in 1st Place.
Loved by many for his humility and simplicity, the crowd was ecstatic and cheering out loud as Marvin came in to the team paddock after his victory lap. Championship music was playing and poppers were flying in the air. It was a celebration. First to welcome him with a big, tight hug was his dad followed by his team and his fans.
