Watches and Racing

The world is full of interesting pairs and when it comes to the undying enthusiasm for cars, it is, more often than not, coupled with an enthusiasm for watches. It thus seems only natural that F1 teams have historically collaborated with elite watch brands to bring together a strong fondness and heightened appreciation of extraordinary precision. Casio did just that when it started its collaboration with the Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula One Team in designing a selection of new watches. The availability of the latest of these limited-edition Edifice watches was announced in Tokyo last March, where they stated that this new line of Edifice metal watches dares to capture the essence of “Speed and Intelligence”. Casio has supported the Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula One Team as an official partner since 2009, and now offers 5 spanking new EFR-534RB and EFR-537RB models.

Christian Horner, Team Principal of Infiniti Red Bull Racing exclaimed, “Time is vital in Formula One, everything runs to a schedule whether it be race sessions, production lines, build programmes or events at the racetrack. Casio's launch of the new collection of Infiniti Red Bull Racing Edifice watches is perfectly timed! With all of the new design regulations with Formula One and a new driver line up, we all look forward to sporting our new watches and building upon the success of the current partnership.”

The EFR-534 base model comes with the Super Illuminator – a specially bright LED that illuminates the dial with greater intensity than a regular LED light. While the EFR-537 base model comes with the Neon Illuminator – a technology that uses the absorption of photoic energy from a black light LED to enable the watch indicators, dials and hands that are specially-coated with luminous ink, to glow vividly. Of course, the colors red, blue, yellow and purple are characteristic of the hands and inset dials of this line of watches, being the official team colors of Infiniti Red Bull Racing. The F1 team's logo is likewise found on the watch dial, and emblazoned on the special packaging.

“The new collection looks great!” expressed Sebastian Vettel of Casio's new line of Edifice watches. “I like the use of the Infiniti Red Bull Racing colors, in particular the blue, which is a cool feature in the team's garage this year,” he said.

Casio Philippines, in cooperation with Icon International Events Productions, hyped these timepieces to race-savvy Filipinos by holding a unique, Casio-Edifice Virtual F1 Race Challenge amongst local participants who simply had to register to join. The virtual racing matches were conducted in SM Malls (and concluded last August) via custom-made virtual racing pods – which offered each challenger a seat, steering wheel and driver's pedals to control – simulating an actual F1 racing experience. The gaming software used here was developed to accurately resemble the responsiveness, sensitivity, and speed of real F1 cars. All the contestants had to do was drive through the racecourse as fast as they could, and the individuals who clocked-in the top 10 best race times would be the winners for that event leg.

Up for grabs in the event were: the hottest Edifice watch, official Red Bull merchandise and raffle tickets that gave each holder a chance to win the ultimate prize – an all-expense-paid trip to experience the F1 night race in Singapore held last September 19-22! These generous prizes were in commemoration of the forged partnership between Casio and the Red Bull Renault Racing Team.

Meanwhile, Senior Managing Director and Senior General Manager of Casio Computer Co. Ltd.'s Global Marketing Headquarters, Hiroshi Nakamura expressed “It is an honor to be able to release a product in association with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, a team with worldwide popularity. We will continue to strengthen our relationship with the team through future collaboration models and other activities.”

The complete collection of these special-edition watches can be found in all G-Factory stores nationwide, as supplies last.
